    James Szalados, M.D. - Of Counsel

    Dr. Szalados is admitted to the New York Bar and concentrates his practice on the diverse matters of healthcare law and the various legal needs to healthcare providers and medical practices. His legal practice, in collaboration with partners at Kern Augustine, includes at and represents physicians and physician practices in matters of: practice and business formation, management and dissolution; contract law, regulatory compliance; administrative and licensure concerns; peer review and credentialing issues; managed care and reimbursement concerns; and, malpractice defense.

    Dr. Szalados regularly participates in the education of attorneys and physicians on medical-legal matters and has authored chapters in legal treatises on Food and Drug Administration law and managed care litigation as well as dozens of articles on diverse aspects of healthcare law. Dr. Szalados has broad expertise in and has written and lectured extensively on matters of legal issues of concern to the medical community at CLE events for the American Bar Association, the American College of Legal Medicine, and the Monroe County Bar Association.

    Dr. Szalados has over 25 years of training and clinical experience in medicine in the fields of surgery, anesthesiology, critical care, and hospital medicine, with experience spanning both academia and private practice. Dr. Szalados actively practices anesthesiology and critical care medicine. Dr. Szalados has attained Fellowship status in the American College of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American College of Legal Medicine. Dr. Szalados has participated in clinical research, co-authored textbooks and textbook chapters, authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals and continues to lecture at regional, national, and international medical symposia.

    In addition, Dr. Szalados has significant experience in healthcare administration and leadership as Executive Vice-Chairman of Anesthesiology and Medical Director of Operating Rooms at the University of Rochester; Vice-President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Lakeside Health System; Director of Clinical Services and Medical Director of Respiratory Care at Unity Health System, and Director of Surgical Critical Care and Critical Care Telemedicine at Rochester General Hospital. Dr. Szalados is Past President of the Monroe County Medical Society in Rochester, NY.
